Fable 3 is without question one of the biggest and most anticipated releases of the year. After spending a week with the game I can say with certainty that it’s worth the price of admission, but it’s not perfect. Developed by Lionhead Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studio, Fable 3 takes the franchise in a more accessible direction, opening up the world of RPG Adventure Games Weapons to anyone who cares to pick up a control
Well, not exactly. For starters, none of the three things mentioned made it into the game. Yes, your character did grow up, but via a timeskip rather than over time. You could choose between good and evil, you could get married, you could make your character fat or thin, but it ultimately didn’t mean anything. The ending was still the same and your choices really didn’t change much of anything. All the choices seemed tacked on for gimmick’s sake. Still, Fable has its fans who enjoy it for what it is but it didn’t contain everything Molyneux said it would, and that’s why it makes it onto the l
After traveling through the Bloodstone Demon Door, Fable 2 players are transported to a peaceful, snowy path in the woods. If they follow the path, which looks like something from a Christmas painting, they eventually come to a cozy lodge nestled deep among the trees. Upon entering the lodge, things take a turn for the weird. A piercing music note signals the lodge turning into a dilapidated version of itself, complete with a skeleton lying on the kitchen ta
Particularly troublesome are “crossover” attacks, in which the player needs to target an enemy on the left side of the screen with his or her right hand, or vice versa. The Journey actually warns players against crossing their arms over themselves, but it is often inescapably necessary. While it’s true that The Journey’s combat controls work much more reliably than its driving controls, that’s cold comfort when it’s all but impossible to accurately target a given enemy, and the player ends up dying as a result. Fortunately, The Journey isn’t particularly difficult, and ample checkpoints ensure that there is never too much of the game to rep
As soon as the game turns on, Fable 3 is noticeably similar to Fable 2. The graphics won’t blow anyone away. It’s not the kind of game that relies on eye-popping graphics to lure the gamer in. While there are better looking games on the market, it shouldn’t lessen the enjoyment of playing Fable
The basics of combat are untouched from the previous Fable games. The hero has three types of weapons to use during combat: melee, range and magic. What has changed is how these weapons change over time. As opposed to previous Fable games, where players would modify their weapons with items found in the game, now weapons evolve over time based on how they’re used. Each weapon has multiple ‘Achievements’ associated with it and completing these Achievements cause the weapon to evolve. A sword may develop fire damage after it has killed 200 enemies. Some gamers have complained that this takes away from the customization of the first two Fable games, and it does make playing the game a much more streamlined proc
Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac Games has been entrusted with Spider-Man , and we know next to nothing about the game so far, which makes its potential E3 appearance even more exciting. Hopefully this year’s E3 will give fans a look at some actual in-game footage, along with plot details and features fans can look forward to when the web-slinger’s next game finally hits store shel
4. Final Fantasy XIII
The Final Fantasy series has been through a lot of changes over the years. Starting as the originator in high fantasy and RPGs on this side of the planet, it evolved into a tech-punk sort of story featuring characters with ridiculous hair and equally ridiculous weapons, and has got to the point where no one knows what to expect next. XIII was the first to appear on the current console generation so naturally, fans were hyped, particularly PS3 fans who needed exclusives. But then, the news broke that XIII would be appearing on the Xbox 360 as well. This sounded almost like a death knell for the PS3, and many were saying that if Metal Gear Solid 4 jumped ship as well, the system was finished. Meanwhile, after delay after delay, Final Fantasy XIII was released four years after its announcement at E3 2
3. Fable
Peter Molyneux has become something of a joke to some gamers. He’s become infamous for promising incredible things in his games and failing to deliver on such a level that it’s spectacular. Nowhere was this more apparent than with Fable for the Xbox. Peter promised incredible things, like “trees that grow in real time”, “rival factions that go to war with you”, “characters that age over time” and so on. With all this and more going into one game, Fable had to be one of the best things ever, ri
Further exploration of Andale reveals that the “strange meat” its townspeople eat is actually human flesh, and that the town is run by inbred cannibals. Upon making this startling discovery, players are then attacked by the people of Andale, unless they have the Cannibal perk, in which case they are accepted by the twisted community as one of their
