Even having just one squadmate kitted out with a sniper rifle opens up a bevy of tactical options. Out sniping the other team doesn’t necessarily need to be the name of the game, either. One squadmate returning fire to draw attention while the other two find routes to flank or close the gap is a remarkably effective strat
For instance, coverage of a battle royale is going to be drastically more complex than a game like Mortal Kombat and completely different than moba Updates coverage. Asking one entity to develop the infrastructure to cover all games is quite a reach. This leaves developers in charge of covering their own events and lets them dictate how they set up tournaments, pay athletes, and cover the events. Could there ever really be a unified esports community under this system? Probably not. This means a lack of regulation, consistency, and viewership will always be an industry-wide conc
It’s more than a semantic concern, however. Unlike traditional sports, it’s nearly impossible to tune in to games that you don’t play personally. For instance, I’ve never been into Overwatch , and although I understand how the gameplay works, Overwatch League is completely unenjoyable to watch. You can’t appreciate the level of difficulty that certain moves take to execute unless you’ve attempted them yourself. This rule is almost universally applied across all of esports. Unlike traditional sports, where pure athleticism can be appreciated void of any tactical or technical knowledge, esports requires a higher degree of familiarity. At best, this means that viewership rarely crosses between games. At worst, this means esports isn’t viewer-friendly and may never have what it takes to reach wider audien
Sometimes referred to as minions in other MOBAs, lane creeps automatically spawn every thirty seconds throughout the game, and this cannot be stopped or affected in any way. Each lane gets a team of creeps, and left alone, they will meet the opposing creeps in the middle of the map and simply cancel each other out. Early in the game they are a solid way of earning hero experience and gold, which leads to one of the most important parts of the game: lan
San Francisco Shock star Jay “sinatraa” Won took over the _ Overwatch _ League in 2019. Remaining consistent through meta and rule changes, the 19-year-old damage player earned his spot on everyone’s _ Overwatch _ radar. The San Francisco Shock reached the Grand Final of each Overwatch League stage in Season 2, and won stage 2 over the Vancouver Titans. Once in the postseason play-offs, the Shock suffered an unexpected early loss to Atlanta Reign. Led by sinatraa, the team went on an incredible lower bracket run to the Grand Final. Their dominance continued in the Final, where Shock came out victorious with a 4-0 scoreline. Along with the _ Overwatch _ League, sinatraa aided Team USA in a victory at the _ Overwatch _ World Cup. Sinatraa was named the MVP of both the _ Overwatch _ League and the _ Overwatch _ World Cup. The standards the 19-year-old set this year will live on in _ Overwatch _ ’s esports hist
Borderlands 3 may be a recent release, but Gearbox already has plenty of plans for the role-playing shooter . The Bloody Harvest is free for all Borderlands 3 players, and while the event hasn’t begun yet, its start date will be revealed later this month. Nevertheless, a few details on the spooky event are already available: a new vendor named Maurice will appear onboard players’ ships who accepts a Halloween-specific currency called Hectoplasm. New enemies will also start cropping up all over the galaxy equipped with terror debuffs to knock players off their game. Later on, players will gain access to the Bloody Harvest map; a location full of haunts and led by Captain Haunt — and any player that beats him will score some choice Halloween-themed g
MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) was once that genre in gaming. League of Legends was bringing in big money, Dota 2 was a force in esports, and copycats were springing up all over the place. In truth, that hasn’t really changed. Sure, everyone is streaming battle royale and auto chess now, but MOBA is still alive and well. League of Legends keeps paying Riot’s bills, and Dota 2 still brings in those __ huge prize pools . The copycats have slowed somewhat as developers flock to make auto chess games. The goal for MOBA developers now seems to be to tap into empty markets. That’s probably the inspiration behind Genesis , a new MOBA exclusive to P
Carry Heroes – When leveled properly, these types of heroes can devastate in the late game, and they “carry” a team to victory. The trade-off is that they are weak in the early game and are wasted if not leveled properly throughout a ma
Before I talk Genesis gameplay , I feel like I have to share my MOBA experience. My street cred, if you will. I played a lot of LoL during its heyday, and made it a point to collect all of the Ahri and Rumble skins. When ranked was first introduced, I grouped up with four friends and tried to take on the world. We fought hard just to stay in Gold Rank. We once experimented with Dota 2 , which I enjoyed but also too complex to stick with. After the team dissolved, I played Smite briefly. With this in mind, I feel rather confident in saying that Genesis plays like an easier League of Legen
