A handful of bug fixes came with the update, including the elimination of the flame animation that would occur in the plane when a player was on fire from being struck by a molotov cocktail. This change means players will no longer see a trail of fire shooting out from the back of the plane. Find the full patch notes be
Still, for a sample understanding of why the game has been all the rage on PC, the Xbox version does at least show what it’s like to drop in amongst so many other players with nothing but your wits, skills, and ability to manage the worst shooter mechanics imaginable. If you’re okay with most aspects of the game being sub-par, you can still get in on a big battle royale experience, we just can’t recommend it in its current state. Fortnite , although a very different kind of 100-person battle royale, is not only polished, but free-to-play as an alternat

Performance aside, PUBG is simply a bad “shooter” with an awful control scheme on Xbox. Reloading a weapon for instance in the heat of battle requires players to hold down the ‘X’ button instead of just pressing it quickly. Aiming down sites isn’t holding down the left trigger, it’s tapping it. Inexplicable, holding down the trigger instead just slightly tightens the crosshair (it does the same on PC). Sometimes it won’t even work unless it’s tapped perfectly. Getting in and out of vehicles are two separate buttons and if you want to pick up a specific item from a pile of loot on the ground or move mods from one weapon to another, you better hide yourself for a few minutes. PUBG Weapons does not work well on consoles at all in its current state and needs another year in the oven. Even the little things, like basic matchmaking problems with friends or typos in the menus, aren’t addressed. It’s the sloppiest award-winning game, and the poorest performing shooter we’ve seen on current generation conso
Kim added that Bluehole simply wished that Epic Games would have approached them first, given the close working dynamic they had together with support for 100-player sessions in PUBG . According to Kim, Bluehole felt that going to Epic Games for support allowed the Epic Games to then understand how to “develop new features or improve something in the engine to support that battle royale gameplay , and then use it for their own game mode” rather than continue a working relationship with Bluehole and PU
Epic Games has yet to respond to Bluehole’s harshly worded statement, but fans of both games are already weighing in. Some argue that Epic should have seen this coming, as the developer directly names Battlegrounds as an inspiration, and that Bluehole was always going to take issue with it. But others say that Bluehole is in the wrong, arguing that the concept of battle royale modes are nothing new. Grand Theft Auto Online has a battle royale mode for example, while PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, actually consulted on H1Z1 ‘s battle royale mode before Battlegrounds was relea
The newest patch spent just a day on test servers before going live earlier today, and fans quickly noticed that amongst the smaller issues it addresses, the update decreases item spawn levels on the starting island. This refers to live rounds of actual gameplay and not the opening lobby where players can grab weapons like the Groza or the 9 mm VSS sniper rifle and various tools before boarding the pl
Moreover, the Bluehole executive takes issue with Epic Games’ promotion of the Fortnite Battle Royale mode. In the announcement post for the Fortnite update, Epic specifically states that it “loves” battle royale games like PUBG . In the game mode’s announcement trailer, Epic’s creative director Ronald Mustard references both PUBG and H1Z1 (which has a standalone battle royale mode called King of the Kill ) as areas of inspirat
Kim continued, explaining why the company was the concern. From Kim’s vantage point, and that of Bluehole as a whole, Epic Games released a game mode “that is similar to [Bluehole] that has similar elements,” and that’s a problem considering the two companies’ professional relationship. “We use Unreal Engine to develop PUBG , and we pay a large amount of royalties based on the size of our success to Epic Games,” explained Kim. “Epic Games always promoted their licensing models [saying], ‘We want to support the success of indie developers,’ and [Bluehole is] this indie developer that has been the most successful one using the Unreal Engine this year, and that’s the problem that I s
